  • Size from your usage, not from kits — two days of dry camping with a battery monitor tells you your real daily amp-hours.
  • Soft-start before more panels if AC matters — a $300–$400 soft-start cuts the AC's startup surge and is the cheapest capability upgrade in the system.
  • Respect the roof — every panel mount is a penetration; this is the part that rewards professional hands.
